The University of Cincinnati (UC) is a public research university located in Cincinnati, Ohio. Founded in 1819, UC is one of the oldest institutions of higher education in the United States.   • The Digital Core experience was designed by myself and Prof. Tom Haines to be offered to all incoming Freshman and Transfer E-Media students as part of their first year digital experience. This introductory E-Media course focuses on the areas of the acquisition, editing and exporting of digital images, digital audio and digital video; while offering students a comprehensive hands-on experience with Mac OS. All coursework to be completed via the iLife ’06 creative suite pre-installed on all new Apple computers. This software suite includes iPhoto, iWeb, iMovie HD, iDVD, iTunes and Garageband. The use of these introductory digital tools at an early stage will give students a firm foundation in digital technologies and enable students a smooth transition to Pro Applications later in their college career.

  • New Media Studio I is an introduction to the fundamental skills and tools employed by industry professionals to create effective web-based digital content. During this fast paced ten-week digital experience students will explore both the technical and creative aspects of web-based content creation. Students will develop online content using traditional hand-coding techniques, popular professional WYSIWYG tools, and industry standard image acquisition and editing application Adobe Photoshop. Students will gain familiarity with the Mac OS X operating system and basic web terminology.

  • New Media Studio II Is an introduction to time-based interactive content creation with industry standard animation and authoring environment Macromedia Flash. During the ten-week quarter students will produce a range aesthetically pleasing rich media projects containing text, animation, sound, and video. Students should be familiar with Mac OS X, file management and basic web terminology.

  • During this advanced ten-week experience students explore the world of motion graphic design and the creation of visual effects for film, broadcast, DVD and the web using Adobe After Effects. All work created in this motion graphics class is authored to DVD using DVD Studio Pro. Students should be familiar with Mac OS X, Adobe Photoshop, Final Cut Pro and Quicktime.

  • This course introduces the student to the theory and techniques involved in single camera field production, editing, producing and preproduction. Each student will produce several video production projects using digital video cameras and working in a digital nonlinear editing environment. Each project will be archived to DVD for final review.

  • This During this ten-week experience students prepare a public presentation in fulfillment of the capstone experience requirement. The Capstone Experience obliges a student to demonstrate proficiency in the four Baccalaureate Competencies of the General Education Program at the University of Cincinnati: Critical Thinking, Effective Communication, Social Responsibility and Knowledge Integration.
